Autism Paraprofessional – Behavior Support (ABA‑Aligned) – 190‑day Position

Salary: $20,932 based on education and teacher assistant experience.

Location: Hartsville Area Schools. This role requires travel between multiple school sites within a designated geographical area.

Available: 2026‑2027 School Year. Negative TB test result must be on file prior to starting work. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

Position Summary

The Behavior Support Paraprofessional provides targeted behavioral and functional skill support to students with identified needs, utilising Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-aligned strategies. This position supports students within general and special education classroom settings and facilitates small group instruction focused on functional, social, and behavioral goals. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to implement individualised plans and promote student independence and success across school environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement instructional strategies aligned with ABA principles under the supervision of the district Autism Coordinating Teacher.
  • Provide supervision of students at all times.
  • Adhere to district dress code policies.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Provide direct support to students in classroom settings to increase engagement, task completion, and appropriate social interactions.
  • Collect and record data on student behaviour, progress toward goals, and intervention effectiveness.
  • Use evidence‑based strategies such as prompting, reinforcement, modelling, and task analysis.
  • Support de‑escalation and crisis intervention using trained, approved techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers, behaviour specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency of interventions.
  • Assist with development and preparation of instructional and behaviour support materials.
  • Promote independence by fading supports appropriately over time.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Provide services across multiple school sites within the assigned geographic area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to implement small group instruction and individualised supports under supervision of the Autism Coordinating Teacher.
  • Strong organisational and data collection skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different school environments and student needs.
  • Commitment to student dignity, inclusion, and positive behaviour supports.

Work Environment

School‑based settings including general education classrooms, special education classrooms, and small group instructional spaces. May involve supporting students with challenging behaviours, including physical movement and active supervision.

  • Copy of qualifying credentials as listed above.
  • College Degree or transcript showing sixty (60) or more credit hours OR High School Diploma or equivalent AND WIN or Parapro.
