Purpose of the Job

Provide a positive, stimulating environment and atmosphere that makes the children, parents / carers, childcare team and students feel happy, safe, comfortable and valued. To have an awareness of the holistic needs of all children, supporting appropriate stimulating experiences to encourage independence and child initiated learning to take place whilst working within statutory and regulatory requirements.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Along with other team members, ensure the positive ethos of the Childcare Centre is fulfilled.
  • Assist the Childcare Centre Manager in the provision of high quality full day care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
  • To put into practice the Childcare Centre and College policies and procedures and review appropriately.
  • Provide a positive, stimulating environment and atmosphere that makes the children, parents / carers, childcare team and students feel happy, safe, comfortable and valued.
  • Interact and communicate with children in ways, which focus on the learning potential of the individual child.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate activities that provide an effective environment, working towards the Early Years Foundation Stage and meeting OFSTED requirements.
  • Provide a welcoming friendly environment and develop and maintain positive communication with parent / Carers.
  • To observe, plan and evaluate for children’s individual needs, recording progress and achievements in learning journeys and to act as a key person for a group of children.
  • Participate in Parents / Carers evenings.
  • To ensure the physical well-being of all children by meeting their individual care needs e.g. nappy changing, toilet training and delivery and Collection of children from other settings.
  • To undertake simple daily domestic duties as required e.g. cleansing of equipment, laundry and ensure that health and safety requirements of the setting are maintained.
  • To supervise meals times and prepare simple snacks as required.
  • Administer first aid (if holder of a current valid First Aid Certificate) and administer prescribed medicines, where required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist in the promotion of equal opportunities and an inclusive learning environment throughout Childcare Centre and College.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Undertake appropriate continuous professional development.
  • Comply with all College Policies and Procedures in particular those relating to Finance, HR, Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by management, commensurate with the grade of the post.

Safeguarding Statement

  • Encourage and maintain an environment where students feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to.
  • Ensure students know that there are staff in the College whom they can approach if they are worried.
  • Include opportunities in the curriculum for students to develop the skills they need to recognise and stay safe from abuse.
  • All staff will be required to undertake appropriate safeguarding induction and training.
