Darlington Borough Council is seeking a motivated and organised Processing Officer to support the effective operation of our Parking Processing and Appeals service. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment and is keen to contribute to high‑quality public service delivery.
In this role, you will assist with the daily supervision of the Parking Administration Assistant, issue a range of permits, manage enquiries and appeals, and oversee the administration of fines relating to environmental crime. You will play a key part in ensuring the service is efficient, compliant, and customer‑centred.
As a Processing Officer, you will:
- Support the Processing and Appeals Co‑ordinator in the day‑to‑day supervision of Parking Administration staff, including providing advice, guidance, instruction and checking the quality of work.
- Administer and monitor the issue of various permit types, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements for each scheme.
- Administer the full fines process relating to environmental crime.
- Handle customer enquiries, complaints and appeals relating to the Parking Service, ensuring a high standard of customer care.
- Manage all stages of parking and environmental crime processing.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders relating to car parks, permits and processing activities.
- Assist in preparing documentation and reports for appeals to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal.
- Support cash‑handling procedures when required, including receipt, reconciliation and banking.
- Deliver excellent customer service to members of the public.
The successful candidate will ideally have around one year of experience working with the public, alongside experience in an office environment using applications such as Word and Excel. Experience in income reconciliation and fault‑finding is essential.
