Full time, Fixed term, Start Date: 12/10/2026, End Date: 27/01/2028 (Parental Leave) Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher Technology Te Kura Tuarua o Tawera | Darfield High School has an opportunity for a teacher who can connect with students, nurture them to excellence in all aspects of food production, and effectively run all aspects of a busy food technology kitchen.

Many of our students understand aspects of growing food, and we would love to develop connections between our health, science, Tawera Rural College, commerce and food technology/hospitality areas in a ‘paddock to plate’ pathway. While this is a parental leave role, we’re happy for the successful candidate to bring their own character and development to the position. Because this role is a sole charge teacher, it would best suit an experienced candidate.

As a semi-rural school close to Christchurch, at the heart of our community, our development programme is based on a strong vision. We’re engaged in all the curriculum changes while ensuring that our teaching practices are the most effective for our learners; we’ve done a lot of work on staff culture which is essential in the high-pressure environment of teaching currently.

We have 840 students, Years 7-13, most of whom are very well supported from home and well connected to their school; some need us to adapt our practice to meet their needs. Our roll is growing steadily with development in our zone. This position will commence at the start of term 4, and finish at the end of the 2027 school year (five terms in total). If possible, we’ll consider an earlier start to support transition.

Terms and conditions of employment are covered under the Secondary Teachers Collective Agreement. Applicants for this position should be eligible to work in NZ and have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
