About the role: We are looking for an Experienced Bookkeeper to join the business on a permanent basis at its office in Piddington, Oxfordshire. This is a hands-on finance role supporting the Directors and working across multiple companies. You will take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts administration, VAT processing, supplier payments, reconciliations and financial record keeping. The role would suit a confident, accurate and organised bookkeeper who is comfortable working independently and has strong practical experience using Sage 50.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing bank reconciliations across multiple companies
- Reconciling bank accounts, currency accounts and credit card transactions
- Managing the accounts email inbox and responding to finance queries
- Posting and allocating payments and receipts
- Entering purchase invoices and reconciling supplier accounts
- Checking supplier statements and preparing monthly payment runs
- Managing supplier payments by bank transfer
- Sending customer statements and remittances
- Processing quarterly VAT returns
- Managing monthly PVA and C79 documentation
- Supporting multi-currency accounts
- Assisting with purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control duties
- Maintaining accurate financial records using Sage 50
Requirements:
- Proven experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration or a similar finance role
- Strong working knowledge of Sage 50
- Experience processing VAT returns
- Experience with import/export VAT, PVA and C79 documentation
- Experience working with multi-currency accounts
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confidence managing multiple tasks independently
- Reliable, professional and team-focused approach
- Ability to commute reliably to Piddington, Oxfordshire
Desirable / nice-to-have background:
- Experience working in an SME, owner-managed business or multi-company group
- Background in import/export, plant, machinery, construction equipment, logistics, manufacturing, distribution, automotive, agricultural equipment or trading businesses
- Purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control experience
- Experience reconciling foreign currency accounts
- Comfortable liaising with suppliers, customers and Directors
