Legal Counsel – Banking & Finance (London)
Interim – Day Rate
One year Contract
An international financial institution is seeking a junior to mid-level Legal Counsel to support its London-based Banking teams. This role focuses on providing legal advice across a broad range of lending and finance transactions, including investment-grade lending, real estate finance, project and infrastructure finance, trade finance, and related risk-mitigation activities. You will also contribute to wider legal support across commercial contracts, property matters, regulatory interpretation, and policy review.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on and support the execution of banking and finance transactions, identifying legal and regulatory risks, proposing solutions, negotiating terms, and coordinating documentation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Draft and negotiate term sheets (LMA amongst others), facility agreements, trade finance documents, and secondary trading documentation, while maintaining and updating internal templates.
- Provide legal input into new product approval processes.
- Review a variety of commercial and property-related contracts.
- Conduct legal research, prepare internal guidance, and help arrange training on legal and regulatory developments.
- Support adherence to the organisation’s risk management and conduct frameworks, ensuring effective identification and escalation of legal and conduct risks.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with experience in general lending or financial services, ideally 2–8 PQE (other levels considered).
- Knowledge of syndicated and bilateral loans and ISDA documentation is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of the UK legal and regulatory landscape for bank lending.
- Ability to manage transactions independently with excellent communication and prioritisation skills.
