Our client, a global real estate investment firm with c.$100bn AUM, are seeking a legal counsel to join their growing London team. They are seeking a Legal Counsel specialising in data protection, privacy, and emerging AI regulation. This role sits within a high‑impact privacy and legal function and supports operations across multiple regions. While candidates currently in financial services would be advantageous, those candidates possessing experience in a different sector would still be considered.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice on global privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and equivalent frameworks.
- Draft and negotiate data protection clauses, privacy notices, and compliance‑related documentation.
- Lead or support PIAs/DPIAs and recommend remediation actions.
- Guide teams on international data transfer requirements (e.g., SCC‑based mechanisms).
- Track regulatory developments in privacy and AI; prepare internal guidance notes.
- Partner with technology and business functions to embed privacy‑by‑design and responsible AI principles.
- Maintain templates, playbooks, training materials, and operational guidance.
- Support responses to privacy rights requests and regulatory correspondence.
Your Profile
- Qualification to practise law in the UK or an EU jurisdiction.
- 2–6 years’ PQE with relevant experience in privacy, data protection and relevant regulations.
- Candidates with inhouse experience would be preferred, but candidates coming from private practice with secondment exposure would be considered.
- Strong understanding of global privacy frameworks and emerging AI governance standards.
