Our client is an innovative and fast-paced payments business, they are looking an experienced Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The Opportunity:
This role will sit within a supportive and well-established legal function, working closely with internal stakeholders across commercial, sales, operations, and compliance teams. You’ll report into a London-based senior legal lead and will focus primarily on commercial contracts and supporting business activities in regulated payments and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts including supplier agreements, customer contracts, reseller and referral agreements, and software licensing.
- Advising on intra-group arrangements, corporate governance documents, and outsourcing agreements.
- Improving legal processes and implementing best-practice frameworks for contract management.
- Providing pragmatic legal guidance on various commercial and operational matters, including data protection, intellectual property, and corporate legal queries.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams across multiple jurisdictions.
- Managing relationships with external counsel and distilling complex legal advice into clear business guidance.
What We’re Looking For:
- UK qualified lawyer with 5+ years PQE , ideally gained in-house or with strong secondment experience.
- Commercial contracts experience is essential; exposure to financial services, payments, or tech sectors would be highly desirable.
- Skilled at translating legal concepts into clear, commercial advice.
- Confident working independently and pushing matters forward proactively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment.
