This senior role blends specialist expertise in Credit Risk Insurance, Political Risk, and Surety, with broader responsibilities across commercial legal work, governance and risk. The Role
As Head of Legal, you will advise senior stakeholders on complex insurance products, particularly structured credit, political risk and surety policies, while supporting the wider Legal team on commercial contracting, regulatory matters, and legal governance. The role offers both specialist depth and broad in‑house exposure, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety, ownership and close partnership with the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on legal matters relating to Credit Risk Insurance, Political Risk Insurance, and Surety
- Draft, review and refine policy wordings in collaboration with brokers
- Conduct policy reviews and independent file checks
- Provide clear, commercially focused advice on coverage, structure and compliance
- Support with policy restructuring, complex claims and legal interpretation
- Help shape and deliver the organisation’s legal strategy
- Provide pragmatic, business‑focused legal advice across a range of issues
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements
- Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risk across new products and processes
- Manage external counsel, including oversight of disputes and litigation
- Deliver training on legal and regulatory developments
- Support and mentor junior members of the Legal team
About You
You will be a confident, commercial and solutions‑driven lawyer with:
- Qualification as a Solicitor
- 8+ years’ PQE, ideally with experience in insurance law
- Strong exposure to Credit Risk Insurance; experience with Political Risk and/or Surety advantageous
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
- The ability to interpret complex legal/regulatory issues and communicate them clearly
- A collaborative mindset and confidence dealing with senior stakeholders
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment (typically three days in office)
