Our client is a fast-growing financial services group and they are now looking to appoint a Legal Counsel to work closely with the General Counsel, supporting the business across a broad range of legal, regulatory and commercial matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded in-house lawyer who enjoys variety, collaboration and building trusted relationships with stakeholders across a regulated financial services environment.
What you’ll do
As Legal Counsel, your role will be wide-ranging and hands-on, covering general in-house legal support across the group. You will be trusted to deliver pragmatic, business-focused advice while developing your exposure and responsibility over time.
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial Services / Regulatory
- Advising on FCA obligations and regulatory guidance relevant to the group
- Supporting regulatory change projects such as Consumer Duty, SMCR and product governance
- Working closely with Compliance on regulatory queries, documentation and oversight
- Drafting and reviewing customer-facing terms and conditions, website content and complaint-related matters
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including technology, SaaS and supplier agreements
- Reviewing and negotiating financial services agreements, including platform, adviser, distribution and fund-related arrangements
- Providing timely, practical and commercial legal advice to business teams
- Maintaining and improving templates, playbooks and internal precedents
- Supporting board and committee processes, filings and corporate records
- Assisting with company secretarial administration and Companies House submissions
- Contributing to legal operations improvements, legal tech initiatives and contract lifecycle management
- Delivering internal training and legal awareness sessions
Essential
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (4+ years’ PQE)
- In-house experience within a regulated financial services environment
- Strong commercial contracting experience
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style
- Well-organised, proactive and keen to take on increasing responsibility
