About the Role
An industry-leading civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Site Engineer to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project at Manchester Airport. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and capable engineer to join a highly skilled site team and play a vital role in delivering critical works in a complex, live environment.
Please note: Due to the nature of this project and operational restrictions, night and weekend work will be required at various stages of the programme. Flexibility to work these shifts is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate setting out and dimensional control using robotic instruments, total stations, levels, and GPS.
- Manage and maintain survey control, ensuring it is clearly communicated to site teams.
- Monitor construction progress and support planning efforts with short-term lookaheads.
- Maintain detailed site records including as-built surveys, daily diaries, and inspection reports.
- Assist in producing and implementing method statements, risk assessments, and permits.
- Support quality assurance by ensuring work is carried out in line with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Supervise assistant engineers, chainmen, and industrial trainees on site.
- Maintain effective communication with supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Ensure safety standards and environmental requirements are fully complied with.
- Support in training and development of junior staff and contribute to the broader success of the team.
What We\βre Looking For
Qualifications & Experience:
- MEng / BEng / HND / Foundation Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 1 year of site-based experience in civil engineering (placement or post-grad).
- Competent in the use of setting out instruments and CAD tools.
- Familiarity with airport or live operational environments is an advantage but not essential.
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of workmanship.
- Effective communicator with all levels of the site team and external stakeholders.
- A proactive and positive approach to work, with the ability to take initiative.
- Organised and able to keep accurate records in line with project requirements.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing site conditions and working hours.
Additional Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willing and able to work night and weekend shifts as required by the project schedule.
- Must be able to pass airport security clearance and comply with site protocols.
- Relevant safety qualifications (e.g., Confined Space, RD4000 Permit to Dig, First Aid) desirable but not essential.
