Danny Sullivan Group is currently looking for a Senior Planner for a role with a civil engineering contractor delivering large scale work on the HS2 project in Birmingham. The successful candidate will have a strong civil engineering background—ideally starting their career on site as an engineer—before progressing into planning and project controls. You will be comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams and capable of translating technical and construction methodologies into robust and realistic programmes.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed construction programmes using Primavera P6 (and other planning tools as required).
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure plans are fully integrated with design, procurement, and delivery schedules.
- Provide planning input to support tendering, design development, construction sequencing, and resource allocation.
- Conduct critical path, delay, and “what-if” analyses to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Support the production of weekly and monthly reports, including progress updates, earned value analysis, and variance assessments.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain partners to ensure alignment on programme objectives and milestones.
- Champion best practices in planning and project controls, mentoring junior planners where appropriate.
Experience / Qualifications
- Degree or HNC / HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience as a Planner / Senior Planner within a civil engineering contractor environment (major infrastructure experience preferred).
- Strong site-based experience early in career – understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and constraints is essential.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6; experience with other software (Tilos, MS Project, Power BI) advantageous.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts and project reporting requirements.
- Experience on major infrastructure or rail projects (HS2 preferred) desirable.
