Danny Sullivan Group are currently looking for a Senior/Design Engineer with utilities bias for a role working with a contractor on the Gatwick expansion framework. Working for this specialist civil engineering contractor will see you taking on stage 3 & 4 design responsibilities as well as assisting with delivery program and sequencing of these utilities works. Will also have to take on site based responsibilities once design responsibilities are fulfilled.
Responsibilities
- Technical Design & Asset Management
- Utility Infrastructure: Lead the design of potable water mains, fire hydrants, HV/LV power networks, and complex drainage systems (including aviation fuel-water separators).
- BIM & 3D Coordination: Utilize Civil 3D and Navisworks to ensure clash detection against existing underground airport services and structural foundations.
- Asset Protection: Develop "Protection of Works" statements for critical airport assets, ensuring zero disruption to airfield operations.
- Acre/Gatwick Standards: Ensure all designs comply with Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) engineering standards and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations (CAP 168).
- Permit to Work: Assist the site team in securing "Permits to Dig" and "Impact Plans" within high-security airside and landside zones.
- Risk Mitigation: Champion "Safety in Design" (CDM 2015), identifying and eliminating hazards associated with deep excavations near live taxiways.
- GAL Liaison: Act as the primary technical contact between the contractor and Gatwick's internal engineering and safeguarding teams.
- Utility Providers: Coordinate with external DNOs and statutory undertakers for service connections and diversions.
Site based work
Will also be overseeing site based work as a Senior Engineer outside of the design scope as well so candidates must be suitable for design and site based work.
Experience/Qualifications
- BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering. Ideally Chartered (MICE) or working towards it.
- Minimum 5+ years in civil design/delivery with a heavy focus on underground utilities and aviation based work ideally (not entirely essential).
- Previous experience in an aviation environment (Gatwick, Heathrow, or Stansted) is a significant advantage.
- Expert proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is essential.
- You understand the complexity of working around live aircraft and working to tight handover timelines on works at the airport.
