An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a civil engineering contractor delivering a major programme of heavy civil engineering works. The position is primarily based in Derby, working five days per week in the office. However, for candidates who cannot work from Derby, there is also an opportunity to be based from the London office. With individual packages valued between £100m and £200m and approximately seven years of secured work, this is an excellent opportunity for an SQS looking for long-term stability and involvement in major, technically challenging infrastructure projects.

The Role:

  • As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for major civil engineering packages, with duties including:
  • Commercial management of large-scale heavy civils and infrastructure packages.
  • Administering NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Managing compensation events, early warnings and contractual change.
  • Preparing and managing applications for payment and valuations.
  • Producing monthly CVRs, forecasts and commercial reports.
  • Managing subcontract procurement, appointments and subcontractor accounts.
  • Managing variations, claims and final accounts.
  • Identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks.
  • Maximising commercial opportunities and project profitability.
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Planners and site teams.
  • Providing commercial input into programme and project delivery.
  • Managing client and supply-chain relationships.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team where required.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years' Quantity Surveying experience is preferred.
  • Strong experience at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
  • A proven background in heavy civil engineering or major infrastructure.
  • Experience commercially managing substantial civil engineering packages.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts is essential.
  • Experience with compensation events, early warnings and change management.
  • Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and contractual knowledge.
  • Ability to work 5 days per week on site in Derby, or alternatively from the London office.

  • £500 - £600 per day Outside IR35, or Up to £130,000 per annum + package for permanent candidates.
