We're excited to be partnering with a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of infrastructure projects across the water sector. Projects range from established framework schemes to bespoke and reactive works, typically valued between 200k and 10m+, offering genuine variety in scope, complexity and duration.

This is a role for a commercially confident SQS who can operate independently, support delivery teams and protect margin while maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be a key member of the project team, providing full commercial oversight from procurement through to final account. You'll take ownership of cost reporting, subcontract management and contractual compliance, while proactively identifying risk and commercial opportunity across your projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
    • Produce accurate cost, value and cashflow reporting
    • Lead monthly CVR preparation and commercial forecasting
    • Manage project cost control and financial performance
    • Prepare and agree applications for payment through to final account
    • Identify and realise commercial opportunities while mitigating risk
    • Provide commercial guidance to operational teams
  • Contracts & Supply Chain
    • Administer main contracts (primarily NEC and IChemE forms)
    • Manage change control, claims and additional payment negotiations
    • Procure subcontract packages and manage post-contract performance
    • Ensure appropriate contract terms are in place across the supply chain
    • Build and maintain strong subcontractor relationships
  • Governance & Process
    • Ensure compliance with internal commercial procedures
    • Support continuous improvement of commercial processes
    • Protect the business from contractual and commercial risk

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS within civil engineering and Infrastructure
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC (IChemE experience advantageous)
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement and post-contract administration
  • Demonstrable experience in monthly forecasting and cost analysis
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
  • Must hold right to work in the UK

Desirable:

  • HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
  • Member of RICS (or working towards)
  • CSCS card
  • Experience working for a direct delivery contractor
  • Previous experience in the water sector
  • Estimating experience
