Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure works across the UK. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who wants to take ownership of setting out, surveying, and site delivery duties on technically challenging civil engineering schemes. The role offers long-term stability, excellent training, and clear progression into senior engineering and site management positions. You will be joining a supportive delivery team where quality, safety, and professional development are strongly prioritised.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Engineering & Technical Delivery: You will carry out accurate setting out and establish survey control on site, ensuring all works are delivered in line with contract drawings and specifications. You will undertake regular checks to maintain accuracy and compliance, while also maintaining site records including diaries, drawings, and allocation sheets. The role involves resolving technical issues as they arise and supporting smooth site delivery. You will assist with procurement coordination and materials planning, produce short-term programmes such as 2-week lookaheads, and prepare inspection and test plans along with task briefings.
  • Health, Safety & Environment: You will promote safe working practices and contribute to a positive site culture while ensuring full compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental requirements. You will support safe systems of work and help maintain strong hazard awareness across site activities.
  • Quality: You will ensure all works are delivered right first time and to a defect-free standard, following established inspection and quality assurance procedures. You will also be expected to identify opportunities for improved methods of working and value engineering where possible.

Key Outputs

The role requires accurate and timely setting out of works, along with the maintenance of complete and reliable site records and documentation. You will be responsible for maintaining survey control and ensuring data accuracy, as well as supporting the successful handover of completed works with minimal defects.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer role, with a strong understanding of civil engineering construction methods. You will be fully competent in the use of robotic total stations or EDM equipment and hold a degree or HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Strong communication skills are essential, along with a self-motivated, organised, and delivery-focused approach. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office would be desirable, along with a valid CSCS card. Additional beneficial qualifications include temporary works awareness or coordination experience, cable avoidance training, First Aid certification, and NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications. Experience within water-related infrastructure environments would also be advantageous but is not essential.

What’s on Offer

This opportunity offers a competitive salary of £45,000 along with long-term job security on established infrastructure frameworks. You will have access to strong career progression opportunities into senior engineer or site management positions, supported by structured training and development. The package also includes pension, life assurance, and private medical cover, along with a generous holiday allowance including bank holidays. You will benefit from access to wellbeing and employee assistance programmes, leadership training, and ongoing professional development support.

Why Apply?
