Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
  • Lead toolbox talks, site inductions, and daily briefings. No waffle. All action.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain short-term and master programmes using MS Project or Asta.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and direct labour—everyone knows where to be and what to do.
  • Proactively manage health & safety on site, with RAMS, site inspections, and zero-tolerance on sloppy PPE etiquette.
  • Commercial & Contractual Awareness
    • Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and Commercial team to flag variations, value engineering opportunities, and keep that margin healthy.
    • Attend and chair site meetings with clients, PMs, consultants, and internal teams.
    • Record all site progress, issues, and changes via daily logs and weekly reporting.
    • Ensure snagging, QA inspections, and handover packs are not just completed—but immaculate.
  • Stakeholder & Client Management
    • Build a positive, professional working relationship with university facilities teams and external consultants.
    • Plan and communicate any works that may affect student experience—night works, noise barriers, etc.
    • Be the calm in a storm during challenging or reactive situations (e.g. surprise asbestos finds, academic exams in adjacent buildings).

    Key Skills & Experience

    • Must-Haves:
    • Proven experience managing fit-out/refurb projects within the education sector (university environment preferred).
    • SMSTS, CSCS (Black/Gold), and First Aid – non-negotiable.
    • Strong understanding of M&E coordination during fit-outs.
    • Excellent programming, sequencing, and logistics planning skills.
    • Familiarity with working in live environments and listed buildings.
  • Nice-to-Haves:
    • Experience managing summer works, term-restricted refurbishments, or science block refits.
    • Asbestos Awareness & Fire Marshal training.
    • Degree/HNC in Construction Management or related discipline.
