A leading privately owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialist is seeking a Project Engineer (MEICA) to join its growing team. With over 40 years of experience delivering design, engineering and maintenance services across the water, transport, built environment and energy sectors, this organisation operates as a Tier 1 partner on major frameworks, joint ventures and standalone schemes nationwide.

The Role
As Project Engineer within the MEICA division, you will provide detailed technical input across the full project lifecycle - from design and procurement through to installation, commissioning and handover. You will play a critical role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with specification. A strong focus on health & safety is essential, with zero tolerance for unsafe practices. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will help plan and execute project activities to meet technical, programme and commercial objectives while maintaining the highest quality standards. Projects range from £200k to £10m+ and include both planned frameworks and reactive works across major UK infrastructure schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Management team in delivering MEICA projects safely and efficiently
- Produce functional specifications and assist with contractor selection
- Manage suppliers and coordinate engineering services across disciplines
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, planners and commercial teams
- Contribute to variation orders, site instructions and commercial reporting
- Review and develop tender documentation
- Identify project risks and coordinate mitigation measures
- Conduct technical assurance checks and audits during design and construction
- Oversee design, installation, testing and commissioning of MEICA systems
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes and best practice
- Support preparation of engineering drawings, schematics and documentation
- Participate in site visits, inspections, FAT/SAT and commissioning activities
- Manage project documentation and reporting
- Provide technical support to clients and stakeholders
Technical Experience Required
- Strong experience managing design, installation, testing and commissioning of MEICA systems including:
- Pumps and valves
- HV/LV systems, transformers and Ring Main Units
- LV switchgear, MCCs, PLCs, RTUs
- Instrumentation and control systems
- SCADA / Telemetry systems integration
Essential Criteria
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, Manufacturing or related Engineering discipline
- SMSTS or NEBOSH qualification
- Relevant CSCS Card (Supervisory / Professionally Qualified / Manager level)
- 1st Aid trained
- Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and safety culture
- Proven experience in a similar role
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders
- Strong leadership qualities and problem-solving capability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Able to prioritise workload and work under pressure
