We’re delighted to be partnering with a well-established Tier 1 civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of infrastructure projects across multiple sectors, including water, transport, energy and the built environment.
This role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of works, ranging from framework delivery to bespoke and reactive projects, typically valued from £200k to £10m+.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining commercial control, improving cost efficiency and supporting project teams from pre-construction through to final account.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide day-to-day commercial support to live projects, ensuring robust cost management, contractual compliance and accurate reporting. You’ll work closely with operational teams, clients and the supply chain to manage risk, realise commercial opportunities and maintain strong financial performance.
The role requires a commercially astute individual who is confident working across multiple workstreams and comfortable engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Financial Management: Maintain accurate and timely cost, value and cashflow reporting; Produce forecasts and monthly CVRs in line with business requirements; Manage cost control, earned value analysis and commercial plans; Support project teams to drive efficiencies and improve margins.
- Contracts & Supply Chain: Assist in ensuring main contract terms appropriately manage commercial risk; Procure and manage subcontractors, including negotiation and financial control; Prepare and submit applications for payment; Manage variations, claims and additional payments with clients.
- Stakeholder & Team Interface: Build and maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships; Liaise with client representatives and third parties on commercial matters; Work closely with site teams to forecast spend and cash recovery; Share best practice and provide commercial guidance to operational teams.
- Processes & Governance: Ensure internal commercial processes are followed; Support continuous improvement of systems and procedures; Work within JV or alliance commercial frameworks where applicable.
What We’re Looking For
Essential: Previous experience within the construction or civil engineering sector; HND, Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying; Working knowledge of NEC / ICE contracts and Construction Law; Experience managing subcontractors, including measurement, certification and accruals; Strong understanding of monthly reporting and cost control; Excellent numerical, IT and communication skills; Ability to manage workload and deadlines effectively.
Desirable: Experience in estimating and cost analysis; Membership of RICS or another relevant professional body (or working towards); Valid CSCS card.
