Contract: £400 - £500 per day
We’re working in partnership with a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a major Ministry of Defence (MoD) redevelopment project at Marne Barracks, Catterick Garrison. We’re now looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of this long-term, multi-phase scheme. The project forms part of the MoD’s Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Programme and will run through to 2027, delivering new accommodation, sports facilities and supporting infrastructure within a live, secure military environment.
The works include multiple new-build and refurbishment packages, such as:
- New accommodation blocks (170+ bedrooms)
- Gymnasium and strength & conditioning facilities
- Workshops, garages and storage buildings
- Roads, car parking, pedestrian and cycle routes
- Landscaping and external works
The scheme is currently progressing through RIBA Stages 3 & 4, with enabling works underway and main construction phases commenced from mid-2025.
As Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide full commercial support to live construction packages, working closely with the site team and client representatives to maintain cost control, manage change and ensure strong financial performance. You’ll be embedded on the project, supporting delivery from pre-construction through to final account within a highly governed and compliance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate cost, value and cashflow reporting
- Produce forecasts, CVRs and commercial reports
- Administer the main contract and manage change control (typically NEC-based)
- Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation and financial performance
- Prepare and agree applications for payment
- Manage variations, compensation events and final accounts
- Work closely with site teams to forecast spend and cash recovery
- Liaise with the client and wider project team on commercial matters
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor on construction or infrastructure projects
- Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts
- Experience managing subcontractors and commercial reporting
- Strong communication, numerical and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Experience working on MoD, defence or other secure/regulated projects
- Membership of RICS or working towards chartership
- Valid CSCS card
