Location: Scotland and the North of England

We are working with a nationwide UK retailer specialising in clothing and textiles, across 1,000 stores, who are keen to recruit a Health and Safety Manager. The Health & Safety Manager will report directly to the Group Company Secretary, and will be predominantly field based, supporting multiple retail brands across the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance, support, and training on health and safety matters across all areas and levels of the organisation.
  • Conducting approximately 70 site audits annually, primarily within retail stores, but also across distribution centres and office locations.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for external bodies such as Environmental Health Officers, Fire Authorities, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Investigating incidents and accidents, as well as contributing to the development and review of risk assessments and safe working practices.

Technical requirements:

  • Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation.
  • Membership of IOSH.

Key skills and attributes:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with effective report writing abilities.
  • Practical and commercially aware approach to health and safety.
  • Confident delivering training on health and safety topics.
  • Ability to implement effective safety solutions within a business environment.
  • A collaborative team player.

Additional Information:

Experience within retail or distribution environments is desirable, though candidates from other sectors will also be considered. Ideally, applicants will have at least two years’ post-qualification experience, or relevant retail/warehousing experience combined with appropriate health and safety qualifications. This is a full-time, permanent position. The role requires regular travel, including overnight stays several times per week, and a full UK driving licence is essential.
