Job Description
Are you the engineer customers trust when a machine stops and the answer is not immediately obvious? We are looking for a hands-on Electrical Controls & Service Lead Engineer who can diagnose complex faults, explain the solution clearly and keep service work moving.
This role combines practical engineering with day-to-day leadership of a UK Service Centre supporting plastics extrusion machinery. You will work on both legacy and modern equipment, help customers remotely and on site, and travel within the UK and internationally for installation and commissioning work.
What you'll do
Lead and prioritise Service Centre work so customers receive a responsive, reliable service.
Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls faults on industrial machinery, remotely and at customer sites.
Install, test and commission equipment, working through technical issues until they are resolved.
Speak directly with customers to understand the problem, explain your findings and agree practical next steps.
Work with sales, production and specialist colleagues to coordinate repairs, upgrades and technical support.
Maintain accurate electrical drawings, service records and technical documentation.
Identify where spare parts, upgrades or service agreements could improve equipment performance and reliability.
What we're looking for
You will have substantial hands-on experience in industrial electrical engineering, machinery controls and fault finding. You should be confident working with AC inverter and servo drives, temperature and pressure control systems, and PLCs at a fault-finding level, including backing up, loading and restoring supplied software.
You will also understand safe isolation and testing practices, UK electrical safety requirements and the principles of machinery safety. Just as importantly, you will be methodical under pressure, comfortable taking ownership of customer problems and able to communicate technical information in a clear, helpful way.
Experience with plastics processing or extrusion machinery would be useful, as would PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems or electrical CAD. Training can be provided on specific equipment and CAD software, so we welcome applications from engineers with strong transferable industrial machinery experience.
Salary: up to £70,000 p/a (DOE), plus a vehicle and all travel expenses paid. UK and international travel is part of the role.
