An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and proactive Public Affairs & Communications Officer to join a leading business membership organisation. This role will play a key part in shaping policy communications, influencing decision-makers, and ensuring the voice of local businesses is heard across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead communications and engagement activity relating to policy, public affairs and business advocacy.
- Build strong relationships with members, stakeholders, policymakers and business leaders.
- Research and identify political, economic and policy issues affecting businesses.
- Develop responses to consultations, policy changes and regulatory developments.
- Produce engaging content including reports, newsletters, magazine articles, thought leadership pieces and briefing papers.
- Organise and attend member meetings, events, consultations and networking activities.
- Commission and analyse business research, surveys and economic intelligence.
- Represent business interests at external forums, roundtables and stakeholder meetings.
- Identify funding and grant opportunities relevant to members.
About You
We are looking for an excellent communicator who can translate complex information into clear, engaging messages. You'll be confident building relationships, influencing stakeholders and managing multiple priorities.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 12 months' experience in policy, public affairs, strategic communications or a similar role.
- Strong writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience influencing internal and external audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret research and business intelligence.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Access to own transport and willingness to travel across the region.
Ideal Candidate
Experience within a membership organisation, business support environment or public affairs setting would be highly advantageous. A good understanding of the West Midlands business landscape and the challenges facing local businesses is desirable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys influencing change, building meaningful relationships and giving businesses a stronger voice across the region.
Hours: Full-time (35 hours) or Part-time (minimum 21 hours, 3 days per week)
