The company's mission is to supply technologically advanced extrusion solutions to the global polymer and rubber processing industries whilst simultaneously supporting multiple heritage brands. Providing exceptional value to customers, our client serves a wide range of industries including packaging, construction, healthcare, agriculture, automotive, electronics, and energy. Additionally, the company offers a full range of extrusion aftermarket services and rebuilds/reconditions older machines for resale. Their UK business unit is a growing, tight-knit operation with an excellent team environment.
Role Summary: The Automation & Controls Service Engineer will assist the current Service Centre Manager lead the company's service centre operations, focusing on customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. In addition, the successful candidate will assist in supporting the growth of the machinery control business and establish new areas of expertise within the customer base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily operations of the service centre, ensuring high standards of customer service and operational efficiency.
- Develop awareness of both historic and current control systems in an effort to support for the full range of company products with a strong focus on ongoing support for heritage brands.
- Work alongside current Service Manager and other on-site staff on electrical and control issues.
- Support projects with customers, troubleshooting existing issues and providing solutions.
- Assist in specification of PLCs, software, hardware and related technology for replacement and refurbishment of out-of-date equipment.
- Assist in transition from analogue to digital technology.
- Assist in development of new control solutions for plastic processing equipment.
- Modify standard control panels to suit customer needs and upgrade/modify electrical systems on rebuilds.
- Provide consultative technical advice and assist in solving equipment and processing problems for customers.
- Assist in the generation, maintenance, and modification of relevant electrical CAD drawings for ongoing contracts and prospective orders.
- Coordinate with sales and production teams to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
- Promote and manage aftermarket sales, including service contracts, parts, and upgrades.
- Conduct service calls, sales calls, and commissioning visits, as necessary.
- Keep up to date with current safety standards, working practices, and technological advancements applicable to the business sector.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong experience in control systems, electrical engineering, and electrical wiring.
- Experience in varying manufacturing environments throughout the plastics industry.
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical issues and provide hands-on support.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in front of customers.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Working experience with some/all of the following: Ladder Logic, IEC 61131, HMI configuration, SCADA software (WinCC, Wonderware, Proface, Red Lion), Networking IP/Ethernet IP, and typical PLC controls (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Proface).
