The Commercial Vehicle Technician is a vital role within the Transport Services team responsible for ensuring diverse vehicle fleet plant and equipment are maintained to the highest legal safety and manufacturer standards.
Working within the Future Shape of the framework you will perform high-level diagnostic repair and inspection work to support the councils Operators License and VOSA compliance. As a Nominated Tester you will also lead MoT testing for both council and public vehicles (Classes 4, 5 & 7) ensuring a right first time culture and supporting the continuous improvement of the Street Scene Service.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose service and repair a wide range of vehicles and plant including refuse vehicles (Mercedes Econic, Dennis), sweepers (Johnston/Scarab), IVECO chassis (3.5t to 28t) and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ensure all fleet assets are maintained in a legal and roadworthy condition adhering to VOSA standards, health and safety legislation and the councils Operators License.
- Utilize the Chevin Fleetwave system to raise and sign off job cards, requisition parts and update vehicle status in real-time.
- Conduct risk assessments (including lone working), maintain a clean and safe workshop environment and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Qualifications:
- Ideally NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
- Qualified Commercial Vehicle Inspector and Nominated Tester (MoT Classes 4-7).
- Current vocational LGV Category C (HGV 2) and Forklift driving license.
- Proven experience in a busy transport workshop or logistics environment.
- Expertise in hydraulics diagnostics and specialist body-mounted equipment.
- Experience in procuring parts and services from external suppliers.
