Overview
We’re exclusively partnered with a Kingston-based fintech client undergoing a major evolution of their core platform — transitioning from a well-established suite of enterprise services to a next-generation, cloud-native SaaS ecosystem. This transformation requires an experienced and product-focused Director of Engineering & Product to lead a growing team through this next chapter. The platform supports complex financial workflows for a broad client base, with ambitions to expand functionality, scalability, and market reach significantly over the next 12–18 months. You’ll join a business with real traction, strong technical foundations, and the leadership backing to invest in engineering excellence.
The Role
You’ll oversee a multidisciplinary department of 25+ professionals across engineering, product management, and technical delivery. With direct responsibility for both platform architecture and product evolution, you’ll shape the engineering roadmap while ensuring tight alignment with commercial and customer priorities. This role is ideal for a hands-on technology leader with the depth to scale technical operations and the vision to guide product direction in a high-trust, delivery-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a cross-functional team of engineers and product leaders (currently 25+, with room to expand)
- Set and maintain a high technical bar across architecture, security, performance, and code quality
- Partner with senior stakeholders to align platform development with client and commercial outcomes
- Define and improve Agile delivery frameworks across multiple squads
- Cultivate a strong engineering and product culture based on ownership, transparency, and learning
- Guide the replatforming and modernisation of legacy services to a modular, service-based architecture
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience leading 20+ person technology functions, ideally across both engineering and product
- Strong technical background in C#/.NET Core, cloud platforms (Azure preferred), and distributed systems
- Demonstrable success in scaling SaaS or B2B platforms in financial, insurance, or compliance-heavy domains
- Comfortable balancing technical leadership with product direction and delivery oversight
- Skilled in evolving delivery structures at scale (tribe/squad/chapter models)
- Experience working within a regulated or data-sensitive environment is advantageous
Technology Environment
- .NET Core, C#
- Azure services (Functions, Service Bus, AKS optional)
- Modular architecture – REST APIs, message queues, microservices
- CI/CD with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps
- React (frontend), modern Agile frameworks
- Secure, event-driven design principles
Compensation & Benefits
- £125,000 basic salary
- 15% annual bonus
- Car allowance
- Private medical, enhanced pension
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Hybrid working: 3 days onsite in Kingston HQ, 2 remote
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to lead a business-critical transformation at scale — not just delivering a new platform, but shaping the future of how the company builds, ships, and evolves software.
