Are you ready to make your mark in the world of Formula 1? At Formula 1, we are passionate about delivering the world’s greatest sports and entertainment spectacle leaving a positive legacy wherever we race. Innovation has always been at the heart of what we do ever since our first Grand Prix in 1950. Now, more than 75 years on, the sport remains a pioneer, developing technologies that have made a significant impact on society beyond the track.
We are looking for a highly capable and motivated Senior Timekeeper Sporting Analyst to support the delivery of accurate, dependable, and real‑time sporting data across Formula 1 events. Working as part of the Racing Systems department, you will be central to the reliable operation and ongoing evolution of F1’s timing, scoring and start systems, supporting the event from both at the Media & Technology Centre and at Grand Prix events. Reporting into the Timing leadership team, this is a hands‑on operational and analytical role at the heart of live race delivery, requiring technical excellence, sound judgement, and the ability to perform under sustained pressure in a world‑class sporting environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Timekeeping & Sporting Operations: Operate and support all timekeeping functions during Formula 1 events, including timing control, results distribution, and results positions. Monitor real‑time data from multiple sources, accurately identifying errors, exceptions or inconsistencies and prioritising corrective actions. Maintain and operate timing room systems, high speed video cameras and start systems to ensure flawless sporting delivery. Apply sporting regulations accurately within timekeeping and start system operations.
- Systems, Rigging & Commissioning: Perform timing system rigging, derigging, and commissioning to a consistently high standard. Able to supervise or support operational setup and post event activities both at the track or in the Media & Technology Centre. Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Technical Analysis & Issue Resolution: Independently identify, analyse, and resolve technical and operational issues during live events. Proactively prevent potential failures through structured checklists, procedures, and system reviews. Investigate and document all event‑based incidents, contributing to event issue management reporting.
- Software, Data & Testing: Conduct effective software application testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring systems meet user and specification requirements. Clearly articulate technical issues and provide actionable recommendations for improvement. Analyse and interrogate large datasets to support operational decisions and post event reviews.
- Collaboration & Team Leadership: Collaborate closely with engineers, sporting teams, developers, and stakeholders to resolve issues and enhance system performance. Support team leadership activities and act as a lead in the absence of the Team Manager. Contribute to cross functional projects and small‑to‑medium scale technical initiatives.
What Are We Looking For?
Knowledge & Skills: Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate strong ability to synthesise, interpret and visualise real‑time information from multiple data sources. Excellent problem identification, analysis, and resolution skills in live operational environments. High levels of computer literacy and confidence working with bespoke software tools. Solid understanding of timing system architecture, applications and working knowledge of system connectivity (e.g., TCP, SQL). Strong organisational, administrative and communication skills. An initiative‑taking can‑do approach to resolving issues and improving processes.
Desirable knowledge & skills: Experience performing structured software testing and UAT. Knowledge of Python and SQL. ISTQB Foundation Level certification.
Experience: Prior to the role it would be essential that you have motorsport timekeeping experience with data analysis in a sporting competition environment. Live sports event experience in officiating, event management, or technical timekeeping roles. A National Timekeeping Officiating Licence issued by an ASN. Experience working in high‑pressure, time critical operational settings.
Some desirable experience you may bring: International Timekeeping Officiating Licence. FIA recognised timekeeping licence. Experience across multiple motorsport series. Exposure to system development, technical projects, or workflow improvement initiatives.
Qualifications: HNC/HND or degree in a technical or related discipline (desirable). Full UK driving licence is required for this role.
Personal Qualities: We value individuals who are calm, resilient and detail driven, with the ability to perform consistently in fast paced live environments. You should be adaptable, collaborative, and self‑motivated, equally comfortable working independently or as part of a wider operational team. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential. In this role it is essential that you are highly organised, with excellent time management and prioritisation skills. Comfortable taking ownership of operational and technical responsibilities. Clear‑thinking and thorough, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, schedules, and environments. Willing and able to travel internationally and work irregular hours, including long race weekends.
