We are looking for a Senior Applications Engineer to join our Track Systems team. Reporting into our Track Systems Engineering Manager, this role will provide system oversight and support for our Telemetry, On-car & trackside services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Event preparation: Align with supporting team managers to ensure critical roles are adequately provisioned for service delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of any planned testing, updates or ongoing issues coming into each event, ensuring correct process and best practice is maintained.
  • Maintain EIM issues and represent department services during technical de-briefs.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the Telemetry and On-car electronics systems.
  • Ensure all issues are reported and correctly tracked to resolution using Event Issues Management process.
  • Act as a company point of contact for the Telemetry and On-car systems, and various Racing Systems’ hosted services, liaising with internal and external stakeholders (for example, FIA, F1 Teams, and Broadcast & Media) on any technical topics.
  • Monitor and analyse data, correctly identifying faults, performance issues and areas for improvement.
  • Work within F1 processes to ensure systems meet performance quality and reliability requirements, seeking to resolve known issues and achieve constant improvement.
  • Responsible for optimal prioritization of issues and allocation of appropriate resource to achieve resolutions.
  • Play an active role in ensuring that the Telemetry & On‑car systems, along with key support systems deliver optimal performance for our clients.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices, highlight opportunities for improvement through the appropriate channels, and advocate for enhancements, where beneficial.
  • Facilitate and promote communication between R&D activities and Operational requirements, ensuring development paths align with operational needs.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on the architectural evolution of Telemetry and On-car electronic systems.
  • Be available to attend up to 70% of F1 events including assisting with installing, commissioning, and operating the systems at events.

  • Collaborate with QMO and PMO, aligning Telemetry & On-car systems with requirements, processes and activities.
  • Provide technical input on the design and development of future systems.
  • Provide technical oversight for Teams private testing support, attending some tests to represent F1 as Product Owner.
  • Propose solutions that deliver faster, better, stronger for all aspects of our obligations.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent vocational and industry experience in electronics engineering (or suitable equivalent, such as mechatronics).

Experience

  • Track record of 5+ years working within a motorsport environment, interfacing with software and/or electronics.
  • Possesses a high level of knowledge and experience in systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of RF principles and the challenges of a motorsport environment.

Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively.
  • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation including requirement specifications, test plans, and test reports.
  • Working with networking and serial protocols (e.g., Ethernet, CAN, RS232); video encoding (e.g., H264) and transmission protocols (e.g., MPEG-TS); and RF systems.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience within F1 or another high-level motorsport environment.
  • Ability to travel extensively internationally.
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multiple internal/external stakeholders.
