We're looking for a Founding Product Designer to work on our Car Finance Product. The product launched 6 months ago and is still very much in its infancy with lots of iterative improvements and new features needed to make it established. You'll report directly to a co-founder and be the only designer on the team. The team is small but cross‑functional – working closely with engineering and product, you’ll be in the weeds of the detail whilst switching hats between design, research and engineering.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working across multiple interfaces. From customer facing, partner facing or internal tooling you’ll need to be able to design seamlessly across them all maintaining consistency with the wider Marshmallow design system.
- Working on ambiguous problems. A lot of what we do is new! And, the Car Finance team are constantly finding new problems to solve. A lot of work will be greenfield and it’ll be down to you to help make sense of it.
- Understanding the needs of our customers. You’ll deeply understand customer needs and will strive to understand the what, why, and how of the problems you’re solving. You’ll use an evidence‑based approach to product development while balancing business needs.
- Making sense of data. To ensure you’re working on the highest impact parts of a funnel as well as working with the team to put new measures in place to make sure we’re moving the needle on business and customers needs.
- Shipping designs to production. Using AI, you’ll be working closely with the engineers to support on shipping features where possible. You’ll pair with them to raise the bar and set guardrails so that you don’t need to design everything yourself.
- Embedding design thinking into your team. Whilst we’re looking for a block‑shaped person, design is your specialism. Based on design principles, behavioural science and best practices you’ll help embed and elevate design quality.
- Collaborating to drive the product vision forward. With business stakeholders, product managers, designers, and engineers to create alignment across teams and manage expectations.
- Contributing to the development of product design across the organisation by collaboration with others in pairing, workshops, training sessions and reviews.
- An eye for detail. We work in a regulated space, there’s a need to build an appreciation of consumer credit rules and ensure our user journey is appropriate to meet these needs.
You should apply if:
- You are actively and curiously using AI. You use AI to optimise your workflow and create efficiency gains.
- You’ve had experience shipping to production, analysing data and you’re curious about which tools and releases will help you progress faster.
- You’re web based over app. We need someone who has had experience of internal systems, can take a lot of data and make sense of it to speed up operational efficiency.
- You can comfortably and independently prioritise work. You balance business and users' needs, focusing on work that will bring the biggest benefits to the team.
- You have a high tolerance for ambiguity. The space is new and you are the sole designer, you should be able to navigate this and be comfortable flagging when you need others to lean in.
- You have a proactive mind‑set. You look to make continuous improvement to the products that you are working on. You find issues and features, write up tickets and ship them when they’re ready.
