About the role

Team you’ll be working in: Hold

We are looking for a Backend engineer to join the Hold team. The team has a broad scope in Account space - customer features (converting money, holding different currencies, bank statements, sharing account with partners, etc.) and platform (product ledger, APIs for other Wise teams).

What will you be working on?

  • Offering new types of accounts (Savings, Joint)
  • Scaling product ledger platform (new capabilities, reliability)

What do you need?

  • You know how to deliver complex product solutions and build distributed systems which are used by millions of customers.
  • You are proficient in backend programming languages like Java, Python or Go.
  • You have extensive experience in designing and implementing asynchronous, reliable and scalable systems in microservices environments.
  • You have a strong product mindset and genuine passion for user experience — you prioritise customer value and make data-driven decisions.
  • You have a self-starter attitude with a collaborative spirit — you work well independently and across teams.
  • Clean, efficient, and well-tested code is your standard — you’re big on performance and maintainability.
  • You are a strong communicator and can articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences. You know how to communicate with multiple teams and find the best solution that suits everyone.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in API-first development
  • Experience working with ledgers and/or payment processing

What do we offer:

Starting salary: £85,000 - £105,000 + RSU's
