We are recruiting a Senior Track Systems Technician for our Track Systems team based at our Biggin Hill office. The role involves installing, testing and maintaining timing systems and related hardware for Formula 1 events worldwide.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Competently install the timing loops, beacons and track temperature sensors in the surface of the track, including manual work such as digging, soldering, operation of machinery and tools (health and safety training provided).
- Install, test and terminate co‑axial cable and multi‑core twisted pair data cable used for loop and decoder data communications.
- Understand the timing data acquisition system and related hardware, including configuring components.
- Fault‑find on basic IT networks and cable systems.
- Compile and publish reports and fault logs for the department.
- Work outdoors in various global destinations, hot or cold, as required.
- Ensure department and company tools and equipment are correctly used, maintained and freighted between races.
- Terminate AS Motorsport type connectors and build or repair simple looms for testing or operations.
- Read, comprehend and follow F1 Circuit Drawings to set up equipment correctly for a race.
- Commission department hardware and software systems, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs.
- Monitor and verify incoming and outgoing data using F1 software to ensure correct function of company systems, reporting issues to the Team Manager or Group Manager.
- Plan systems installations and liaise with other departments or external parties to meet stakeholder requirements.
- Communicate with stakeholders and clients of our systems via the F1 Teams Liaison system.
- Log and update issues in the company fault tracking system.
- Maintain the department equipment manifest, ensuring an adequate level of working spares.
What Are We Looking For?
Personal Qualities:
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Excellent time management skills
- Comfortable working under pressure in a live broadcast environment
- Ability to travel regularly for extended periods (1 to 3 weeks)
Experience:
- Experience in fault finding on electrical/electronic wiring systems
- Proficient in reading, understanding and working to wiring diagrams and technical drawings
- Experience in technical report writing
Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP systems
- Basic understanding of CAN protocols and the F1 on‑car equipment
