We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Site Manager to join our Southern Business. The role will initially be based on a scheme just north of Horsham, Sussex, with future projects across the Basingstoke and Wokingham corridor.
Working closely with the Site Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating day-to-day site operations, managing subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.
What you will do:
- Site Set-Up & Coordination: Assist in the setup of site welfare facilities, offices, and traffic management systems; Coordinate temporary works and site logistics in line with the construction programme; Liaise with utility providers and support service installation planning; Ensure compliance with construction phase Health & Safety plans.
- Subcontractor Management & Supervision: Supervise subcontractors including groundworkers, bricklayers, and carpentry trades; Monitor daily progress and ensure works are delivered in line with programme and drawings; Check that materials and labour are in place to meet build requirements; Support the Site Manager in issuing work and coordinating trades on site.
- Quality Control: Monitor quality of works including groundworks, blockwork, and superstructure elements; Ensure compliance with specifications (e.g. DPCs, cavity trays, insulation, lintels, finishes); Identify and report any issues, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Health & Safety: Promote and enforce high standards of Health & Safety on site; Support the preparation and implementation of RAMS and permits to work; Ensure subcontractors operate safely and in line with company procedures; Record and report accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- ESG: Support the business in meeting Environmental, Social and Governance aims as well as relevant objectives set within the Sustainability Strategy; Support the roll out of requirements related to our ESG objectives and pathway to net zero; Support & assist the achievement of the objectives of the Social Value Framework along with any identified Social and Local Value Measures.
What you will have:
- Experience within residential housebuilding, ideally in an Assistant Site Manager or supervisory role.
- Good understanding of construction processes from groundworks through to completion.
- Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
- Able to manage subcontractors and coordinate multiple trades on site.
- Basic IT skills and familiarity with site reporting systems.
