We are looking for an exceptional dancer to play the leading role of Karen in the Royal Shakespeare Company‘s forthcoming production of ‘The Red Shoes’, directed and choreographed by Kimberley Rampersad.

Where: Stratford upon Avon, UK

When: 23 September 2024 – 19 January 2025

Deadline for applications: 25 July 2024

We are looking for a young-looking dancer aged 18+ to play this role. Karen is 16, an orphan, her mother has just died. She’s taken in by distant relatives where she is viewed as foreign, an outsider.

Dance is her first language – not solely ballet or classical; the movement in this production will be more contemporary/modern. Our red shoes are not a pointe shoe.

We are looking for a ballet dancer with interest in contemporary dance or a really well-trained contemporary dancer. This is also a leading acting role with many scenes, so text ability is required. Please note this is a play with music, so all members of the cast need to be able to hold a tune.

DATES:

  • Rehearsals in London from 23 September 2024
  • Rehearsals in Stratford from 28 October 2024
  • Tech from 4 October 2024
  • First preview: 7 November 2024
  • Press: 14 November 2024
  • Final performance: Sunday 19 January 2025

How to apply:

Please submit your dance CV, headshot, and a dance reel to Charlotte.Hughes@rsc.org.uk as soon as possible. Initial auditions are on 23 July (apologies for the short notice), with a possible additional call on 30 July.
