The Principal UX Designer is responsible for leading end‑to‑end user experience delivery while shaping UX standards, quality, and practice across products. This role combines Principal‑level authority and influence with hands‑on ownership of day‑to‑day UX execution, ensuring complex scientific and business requirements are translated into intuitive, scalable, and accessible product experiences. This position reports to the Head of UX Strategy and is part of the User Experience Team, located in Woking, United Kingdom, and will be an on‑site role (full‑time).
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead and execute the full UX lifecycle end‑to‑end (discovery through validated delivery) for complex enterprise software products, setting a high standard for UX quality while remaining hands‑on.
- Translate high‑level product and business briefs into delivery‑ready UX work, breaking initiatives into actionable design tasks and user stories, managing UX execution and progress through Jira within Agile teams.
- Independently plan and conduct UX research, including contextual inquiry, interviews, workflow analysis, and usability testing, while influencing research approaches and standards across teams.
- Design and build interactive Figma prototypes and high‑quality UX and UI deliverables using the IDBS design system, validating solutions with real users and iterating based on evidence.
- Act as a Principal‑level UX authority, clearly articulating design rationale and trade‑offs to senior stakeholders, mentoring Lead and Senior designers, and driving consistency and best practice across products.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human‑Computer Interaction (HCI), UX Design, Interaction Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Long‑standing experience delivering hands‑on UX design for complex digital products, owning the design process end‑to‑end from discovery through validated delivery.
- Demonstrated expertise in UX research methods, interactive prototyping in Figma, and producing high‑quality UX and UI design artefacts for enterprise software.
- Practical experience working in Agile product development environments, including managing UX work using tools such as Jira.
- Working knowledge of front‑end development concepts and proven experience collaborating effectively with engineering teams.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Designing products within life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
- Working on data‑driven, workflow‑heavy, or compliance‑sensitive enterprise systems.
