We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a project execution team delivering complex, high-value automated material handling and engineering projects within dynamic and technically challenging airport and parcel environments, with a particular focus on Heathrow.
This role is suited to a strong commercial leader with high attention to detail, who is self-driven, organised and motivated, and who enjoys working in fast-paced, complex project environments through to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities:- Accountable for the commercial success of complex engineering projects.
- Ensuring projects are fully cost and change controlled, protecting the business from commercial risk through robust contract interpretation, management and administration.
- Full financial control of projects, including cost forecasting, cash flow management, payment applications and billing plans.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Managing change control processes, including scope analysis, estimating and agreement of compensation events (time and cost).
- Understanding and managing project programmes, including schedule and delay analysis.
- Leading supplier and subcontractor commercial management, both pre- and post-contract.
- Driving continuous improvement in commercial management practices and standards.
- Supporting the development, mentoring and upskilling of commercial team members to build a high-performing Commercial Management function.
- Working collaboratively with Project Directors, Steering Groups and Commercial Leads to implement commercial strategies and targets.
- Proven track record in managing large, complex engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Experience within airport projects.
- Strong working knowledge of industry-standard contracts such as NEC3, NEC4 and MF/1.
- Commercial management of complex engineering projects generating £10m+ annual revenue.
- Proven experience managing change, including scope definition, estimating and compensation events.
- Good understanding of project programmes and schedule delay analysis.
- Strong supplier and subcontractor management experience.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams to meet programme and commercial objectives.
- Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CIOB or ACostE (preferred).
