Damia Group is partnering with a leading global technology organisation to recruit a Duty Engineer for a highly available, 24/7 operational environment supporting business-critical communications and infrastructure services worldwide. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with broad infrastructure, networking and security experience who thrives in an operational role and enjoys working at the heart of live service delivery.
The Role
As a Duty Engineer, you will be responsible for the proactive monitoring, support and maintenance of complex global systems and networks. Acting as a key escalation point, you will respond to incidents, perform detailed troubleshooting and work closely with engineering and service teams to ensure high levels of availability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and support live production systems within a 24/7 duty rota
- Respond to incidents, alarms and service degradations in line with SLAs
- Perform fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and incident reporting
- Support LAN, MAN and campus network environments
- Assist with security monitoring, threat detection and remediation activities
- Coordinate and communicate effectively during major incidents
- Carry out routine operational tasks, system checks and maintenance
- Contribute to continuous service and process improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
- CCNA or equivalent networking certification
- Strong experience across LAN, MAN/Campus Networking environments
- Solid understanding of BGP, MPLS, VPLS and VPN technologies
- Experience with Software Defined Networking (VMware NSX) and SD-WAN
- Exposure to security systems, including IDS/IPS administration
- Windows infrastructure expertise including Active Directory, ADFS, PKI, DNS, DHCP, GPO, RDS, WSUS and WAP
- Virtualisation experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and VMware Cloud Foundation
- Knowledge of VoIP platforms (Asterisk)
- Experience with SIEM and monitoring tools, including System Centre Suite and Splunk Enterprise / ES / ITSI
- Familiarity with telemetry and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry and Telegraf
- Linux administration, including security patching and system hardening
- Automation and scripting skills using PowerShell, Ansible and GitLab
- Experience working in a NOC, SOC or Duty Engineer role within a 24/7 environment
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to remain calm under pressure
