Engineering Supervisor – Building Services

Location: Imperial College London, Hammersmith Hospital campus, London
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, with occasional out-of-hours support during site incidents
Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Salary: Competitive

Dalkia UK is looking for an experienced Engineering Supervisor to lead the day-to-day delivery of planned and reactive maintenance at Imperial College London's Hammersmith Hospital campus. You'll lead a team of multi-skilled engineers and oversee specialist subcontractors, taking ownership of maintenance delivery, statutory compliance and the quality of work across mechanical, electrical and building fabric services.

You’ll work closely with the Engineering Manager and Contract Support team to prioritise work, resolve technical issues and keep the client informed. You’ll also deputise for the Engineering Manager when needed and coordinate the site team’s response to incidents that affect teaching and research spaces.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme and prioritise reactive repairs according to risk, statutory deadlines and the impact on building users.
  • Monitor statutory maintenance and inspections, check that compliance evidence is recorded accurately and follow remedial actions through to completion. Escalate overdue work and risks promptly.
  • Lead the engineering team day to day. Allocate work, set clear expectations, monitor attendance and performance, and check the quality of completed jobs.
  • Develop the team’s skills and technical knowledge through coaching, toolbox talks and training. Identify gaps in competence and plan how to address them.
  • Use CAFM and spreadsheets to monitor PPM completion, analyse overdue work and report on compliance and performance. Review work orders for accuracy, investigate discrepancies and ensure chargeable work is captured for invoicing.
  • Coordinate specialist subcontractors, check completed work against the agreed scope and make sure service reports are recorded.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for the client. Coordinate the response to incidents such as power failures and plant breakdowns, give clear updates and own the follow-up actions.
  • Deputise for the Engineering Manager and identify practical improvements to service quality, productivity and cost control.

What you'll need

  • Experience supervising engineering teams in hard FM or building services, with responsibility for planned and reactive maintenance across a complex building or estate.
  • Practical engineering knowledge in mechanical, electrical or building controls, with an understanding of how these systems and building fabric maintenance are managed together.
  • Experience managing statutory maintenance and compliance, including reviewing records, prioritising remedial work and escalating risks.
  • A track record of building and developing a team, coaching engineers and holding people accountable for the quality and completion of their work.
  • Advanced computer literacy and strong CAFM experience. You'll need to be able to extract and interpret maintenance data, use Excel to track actions and produce reports that show where follow-up is needed.
  • Sound judgement during operational incidents and the ability to communicate clearly with engineers, subcontractors, the client and building users.
  • A recognised Level 4 engineering qualification or above, such as an NVQ Level 4 in a relevant discipline. A BTEC HNC or HND in Building Services Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.

IOSH Managing Safely or a NEBOSH qualification is highly desirable.

Why join Dalkia UK?

You’ll have a direct say in how maintenance is planned and delivered on a busy university campus, with the opportunity to develop your team and build your management experience by deputising for the Engineering Manager.

  • An additional paid day off for your birthday and one paid volunteering day each year.
  • Life assurance and flexible benefits, including retail discounts, electric vehicle schemes, eye care and technology loans.
  • Wellbeing resources and a confidential 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Employee recognition awards and referral bonuses.
  • Company-issued technology, uniform and PPE where applicable.
