The UK is rapidly scaling up its hydrogen production capabilities as a core component of its strategy to reach Net Zero by 2050. The government has set a target of 10GW of low-carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030, with at least half coming from electrolytic (green) hydrogen. Dalkia Engineering is the EPC contractor on two hydrogen production projects within the Northwest of England (Barrow & Trafford) and is looking for an experienced Project Director with demonstrable experience of leading and developing multi-disciplined engineering and construction teams, ideally within technically related energy and renewable industries.
Reporting to the Operations Director, the Project Director position will support the development and organisational strategy of the newly formed energy business.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Leadership
- Support the Operations Director in shaping long‑term business planning and renewables strategy.
- Influence the growth, capability and structure of the Energy business.
- Operational & Project Delivery
- Lead multi‑disciplined engineering and construction teams, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant project outcomes.
- Oversee resource planning and allocation for both directly employed and subcontract teams.
- Ensure QSHE standards are embedded, applied and enforced consistently.
- Drive operational improvements that exceed financial, commercial and HS&E objectives.
- Monitor project reporting and ensure contractual documentation is timely and accurate.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and strengthen relationships with key customers, end‑users and partners.
- Support bid and pre-construction teams on renewable opportunities.
- Champion strong client interfacing, communication and alignment across operational teams.
- People Leadership
- Lead, coach and empower operational and commercial project teams.
- Foster a culture of motivation, accountability and high performance.
- Champion safe working practices and challenge unsafe or inefficient behaviours.
What You’ll Bring
- Successful track record operating at a senior level within a large, multi‑disciplined technical, engineering or energy services environment.
- Proven experience leading complex project portfolios, covering budgets, KPIs, commercial performance, safety, planning and client relationships.
- A strong people leader with demonstrable success in building high‑performing teams and driving continual improvement.
- Exceptional influencing, negotiating and client‑facing skills.
- Goal‑oriented, energetic and committed to service excellence.
- Experience working across technically complex and operationally diverse projects.
