Role Overview
The Electrical Design Engineer will have proven experience working on LV and/or HV distribution systems which will include working with energy centres, transformers, CHP, solar PV, standby generation, heat pumps, and connection to the DNO electricity distribution systems. Projects are generally undertaken on live operational sites, often with critical engineering systems where retention of resilience is required. Ideally, they will have hands-on experience of project ownership from analysis, design, installation and operation and maintenance of electrical systems.
You will both produce designs and manage external design teams to provide buildable designs to the level of detail necessary to mitigate construction and operational risks to execute energy saving measures, which will utilise their experience of delivering solutions on live sites. They will also be able to react to changes in design and understand the impact of design changes at different stages of the project on other disciplines designs, project delivery and cost.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- End-to-end development and delivery of electrical designs.
- Develop outline designs and detailed project specifications in conjunction with other engineering disciplines internally and externally.
- Review of designs and monitoring of external designers up to RIBA stage 4 to ensure the appropriate quality and detail is provided.
- Review electrical specifications and designs undertaken by consultants and sub-contractors, and provide support to mechanical and controls design engineers in their reviews.
- Coordinating design with other disciplines ensuring no gaps in scope
- Ensure the electrical design is adequately managed, reviewed and approved by the client and third parties, in line with project requirements, programme and cost constraints.
- Ensure the design can be safely implemented within a live operational site with minimum disruption, within budget and time constraints.
- Organise and participate in, on-site meetings, surveys and inspections with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Manage people, projects, and resources.
- Liaise with design and construction teams, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Liaise with District Network Operators on behalf of clients, encompassing connection applications and compliance with applicable ENA Engineering Recommendations.
- Keep up to date with the latest regulations and guidance.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of information ranging from clarification of requirements to complex problems and take the leading role in discussions involving clients and third parties aiming to resolve them.
- Help develop, implement, and evaluate systems of work to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Create all appropriate reports and documentation in line with document control procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience
- BSc or BEng Electrical Engineering.
- 3-5+ years commercial experience, ideally within Energy, SME Business in a live operational building.
- Experience of working with LV/HV Systems, transformers, heat pumps, CHP, solar PV, on-site generation and protection.
- Experience designing to the requirements of international standards: CIBSE, HTMs, HBNs, BS 7671, Building Regulations.
- Experience working with ENA Engineering Recommendations P28, P29, G5, G99 and G100.
