We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Jewish Care contract.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical expertise with team coordination responsibilities to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of building services and engineering systems.

  • Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • 40 hours per week

As the Lead Maintenance Engineer, you will act as the primary technical point of contact for site engineers, supporting the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities while maintaining exceptional service standards for our client

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
  • Provide first-line technical guidance and support to site engineers.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake root cause analysis across electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate and support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities through the Aurora system.
  • Ensure all reactive maintenance and breakdowns are responded to and resolved efficiently.
  • Conduct routine inspections of plant and equipment, identifying and reporting any issues that could affect system reliability or performance.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within plant rooms and engineering areas to maximise equipment lifespan.
  • Compliance, Safety & Quality
  • Champion compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report any hazards, omissions or risks that could compromise a safe working environment.
  • Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for both contractors and direct reports.
  • Manage permit-to-work processes and ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
  • Act as the appointed person (AP) for Water and Low Voltage (LV) systems as required under the contract.
  • Deliver monthly toolbox talks and support continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Team Leadership & Administration
  • Support the day-to-day management of engineering staff.
  • Approve and coordinate annual leave requests for direct reports.
  • Manage sickness and absence reporting.
  • Assist with rota planning and resource scheduling.
  • Monitor engineers' daily reports and escalated outstanding priority works where necessary.
  • Support the performance monitoring of subcontractors and service providers.
  • Client & Contract Support
  • Maintain strong relationships with the client through professional communication and responsive service delivery.
  • Ensure all maintenance records, logbooks, reports and documentation are accurately completed and maintained.
  • Manage stock levels of maintenance consumables, arranging replenishment when required.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, innovation and cost efficiencies across the contract.
  • Attend emergency call-outs when required and keep clients informed of progress and completion times.
  • Carry out any additional duties reasonably requested by the Supervisor or Contract Manager.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical background in building services maintenance, combined with excellent communication and leadership skills.

Essential Requirements

  • City & Guilds qualification in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience within a commercial building maintenance environment.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and support a team effectively.

Desirable

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Experience managing permits, RAMS and compliance documentation.
  • Authorised Person (AP) experience for Water and/or LV systems.
