There’s a permanent opportunity for you here as a Fabric Maintenance Technician to join our team on one of our data centre contracts in Thurrock, Essex.
Main Purpose of Job:
The Fabric Day Technician is responsible for maintaining the building fabric and supporting general facilities operations within a critical data centre environment. This includes planned and reactive fabric maintenance, minor repairs, contractor supervision, compliance checks, and ensuring the site remains safe, clean, and fully operational. The role may require flexibility across duties to meet client and business needs. The technician is also expected to participate in overtime as and when required to support operational workloads, project activities, and holiday/absence cover.
Main Responsibilities:
- Fabric Maintenance & General Building Tasks: Complete planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks on building fabric elements such as doors, locks, ceilings, flooring, tiling, furniture, internal finishes, and general site upkeep. Carry out minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general handyman-type repairs within competence levels. Maintain internal and external building areas to ensure a clean, safe, and well-presented environment. Support small works, refurbishment tasks, and minor installation jobs as required.
- Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all company safety procedures, safe systems of work, RAMS, and permit-to-work processes. Ensure correct use of PPE and compliance with site-specific health & safety rules. Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation for statutory and compliance tasks. Report hazards, near misses, defects, and safety concerns promptly.
- Contractor Control & Site Support: Escort subcontractors where required, ensuring full compliance with site rules, security processes, and health & safety standards. Assist in monitoring contractor performance and ensuring works are completed to the required standard. Support the wider M&E team, shift engineers, supervisor, and contract support as needed.
- Communication & Administration: Communicate effectively with the client, contract support, and engineering team regarding job progress and site issues. Close out all tasks accurately on the CAFM system (Aurora), ensuring clear notes, correct time entries, and asset details. Provide updates, feedback, and technical input during meetings or site discussions when required.
- Client & Business Support: Represent the business in a professional, customer-focused manner at all times. Support initiatives to improve site presentation, sustainability, energy efficiency, and general maintenance standards. Undertake additional duties to meet client expectations and operational requirements.
Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm. Additional earnings available through overtime – if wanted.

Skills:
- Practical skills in fabric maintenance, carpentry, decorating, and basic plumbing/handyman tasks.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work independently in a live critical environment.
- Good communication skills and customer focused approach.
- Familiarity with CAFM systems (Aurora experience preferred).
- Good understanding of safe systems of work, H&S responsibilities, and compliance processes.
- Problem solving mindset with attention to detail and quality.
Experience:
- Experience working in a data centre, commercial property, critical environment, or facilities maintenance role.
- Proven experience in fabric repair, general building maintenance, and small scale repair tasks.
- Experience working with subcontractors and external service providers.
- Previous experience in a client facing or FM environment is desirable.
Qualifications:
- Relevant trade background (carpentry, joinery, building maintenance, multi trade) desirable.
- Basic plumbing or mechanical experience beneficial.
- Willingness to undertake further training and competency development.
