Kickstart your career in Building Services Engineering with Dalkia Engineering and play a part in delivering innovative, energy-efficient solutions across the UK. We're looking for a motivated and ambitious Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to join our team initially in working on BioSTaR in Bracknell, Berkshire and then working on future projects in the South West as your experience develops. This is a fantastic apprenticeship opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a Level 4 Building Services Engineering Senior Technician qualification. You'll get dedicated support, progress reviews, and ongoing development opportunities throughout your course.
About the Role
As a Trainee Mechanical Engineer, you'll work on this international research laboratory project, learning from experienced professionals and contributing to real-world engineering solutions. You'll develop technical skills, commercial awareness, and a strong understanding of project delivery in a supportive, collaborative environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting project planning and coordinating workloads alongside the Project Leadership team
- Assisting in delivering projects efficiently and profitably
- Learning how to develop project programmes and track key milestones
- Helping manage procurement schedules and ensure materials are delivered on time
- Supporting tender processes, including understanding estimates and subcontract packages
- Attending meetings with subcontractors and internal stakeholders
- Reviewing technical designs, drawings, and specifications
- Developing your understanding of health & safety standards and compliance
- Learning to interpret technical specifications, standards, and regulations
Who we're looking for:
Essential:
- 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English, and Science
- Level 3 qualification (BTEC, A Levels, or relevant apprenticeship)
- You will initially be site based in Bracknell and this site is not accessible by public transport. Therefore, you will need to have a full driving or motorbike licence to be considered.
Desirable:
- BTEC Level 3 in Building Services Engineering
In addition, you will need to be:
- Passionate about engineering and eager to learn
- Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive
- A strong communicator and team player
- Analytical with problem-solving skills
- Able to show initiative and work well under pressure

Training & Development
Qualification: Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Services Engineering
Provider: Leeds College of Building
Format: Block release (1 week every 5 weeks) – all travel, accommodation and subsistence will be paid for by Dalkia during study weeks in Leeds.
