In this key role, you'll drive operational excellence in our 24/7 wastewater treatment plant, develop and support a high-performing team, and play a vital part in ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant plant performance. Working closely with colleagues across the site, you'll champion continuous improvement, deliver efficiencies, and contribute to the success and sustainability of our operations. Key Responsibilities Play a key role in leading the day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment plant, helping to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable performance across a 24/7 operation. Support the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager in achieving operational and financial targets, driving performance and delivering against key site KPIs. Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and environmental excellence, ensuring the plant consistently meets internal standards and regulatory requirements. Build strong relationships across Production, Engineering, Quality, and other site teams to drive collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Take ownership of workforce planning activities, ensuring effective shift coverage and the efficient management of holiday and absence requirements. Contribute to the successful delivery of site improvement and capital investment projects, helping to enhance plant capability, efficiency, and performance. Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, and maximise operational effectiveness as part of the site's continuous improvement and profit enhancement programmes. Lead and support root cause investigations, turning operational challenges into opportunities for improvement through effective corrective and preventative actions. Help develop and motivate a high-performing team, creating a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous learning. Act as a deputy to the Plant Manager when required, providing confident leadership and ensuring continuity of operations. About the Person Essential Criteria: A degree qualification in Engineering, Environmental Science, Process Engineering, or a related discipline. A minimum of 2 years' experience within wastewater treatment, utilities, manufacturing, or another process-driven operational environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using SCADA systems and operational data to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement. A proactive and forward-thinking approach, with a passion for operational excellence, sustainability, and delivering results Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across multiple departments. The ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, creating a positive and high-performing working culture. A continuous improvement mindset, with a proven ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, optimise performance, and reduce costs. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic 24/7 operational environment. A hands-on approach, coupled with the ability to make sound operational decisions and take ownership of challenges. The ambition and drive to develop as a future leader within a critical operational function. Desirable Criteria: Minimum of 2 years' relevant operational experience, including experience working within a wastewater treatment plant or a similar process-driven environment.
