This role will support the wider Environment and Planning team in daily activities; contribute as part of a project team to deliver E&P services to clients and will work toward developing the knowledge required to research, interpret, and advise on a wide range of environmental and planning considerations. After passing your studies and the necessary end-point assessment, you will successfully complete your Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship. You will achieve an MSc Urban Planning award satisfying the educational requirements of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). At this stage, you will be a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and allowed to use the post-nominal letters MRTPI.
Key Activities
- Spend at least 20% of the contracted working hours studying towards the apprenticeship, including job shadowing, site visits, attending university/training centre, completing exams and assignments, and engaging in company run training & development activities whilst maintaining a detailed record of learning activities.
- Achieve satisfactory exam grading and meet all the formal training course objectives to ensure that you progress and complete your training programme within the agreed time frame.
- Initially shadow and gradually work towards more independent working carrying out a variety of tasks under limited supervision including; generating fee proposals, researching information from a variety of sources, planning, coordinating and reviewing surveys, drafting and preparing reports, understanding site constraints and mitigation techniques/solutions.
- Take ownership for the quality and accuracy of your own work, proactively seeking guidance from more senior members of staff whilst also using your own initiative as appropriate to progress work and improve delivery.
- Learn how to prepare draft feasibility assessments, and contribute to projects in line with relevant Environmental and Planning related guidance, legislation and policy as applied in the UK.
- Provide the wider Environmental and Planning team with assistance on other projects and support team and wider business development by contributing ideas and helping to improve systems and processes.
- Maintain good records including timesheets, expense forms and other records of activities to assist with client updates and ensure accurate billing; show appreciation of commercial awareness and understanding the importance of improving this skill.
- Maintain your own knowledge and skills via company run and wider CPD and take responsibility for your own learning and progress, scheduling progress review meetings and maintaining an up to date record of activities.
- Attend company events and socials, embracing DM’s values and adopting a positive attitude in the workplace.
- Carry out work in compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, contractual and organisational requirements and policies.
