The Senior Product Controller will work primarily within the Business Area Control (BAC) team, while also holding responsibilities across the Financial Reporting function. The role is pivotal within the Finance function and the wider organisation, with accountability for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s books and records. The role requires deep technical expertise in product control, strong commercial judgement, and the ability to challenge existing practices while maintaining a rigorous control environment.

The successful candidate will operate as a trusted partner to Front Office, Risk and senior Finance leadership, combining hands‑on delivery with the ability to step back, look across the wider control framework, and drive meaningful change. A core expectation of the role is to elevate the capability of the BAC function and help take the team to the next level through process improvement, simplification and automation.

Reporting to the Head of Regulatory & Corporate Reporting, the Senior Product Controller will lead and provide senior oversight of the monthly close for business areas, overseeing the daily production and analysis of trading desk P&L and providing senior review and challenge throughout the month‑end close process and contribute to the annual statutory accounts. The role will also support group reporting to Tokyo for DCME and its subsidiary, DCMD, and deliver core financial control activities.

In addition, the Senior Product Controller is expected to play an active role in the Finance Transformation workstream, leading key projects aimed at improving processes, controls, systems and ways of working across Finance. The role requires proactive engagement with senior stakeholders, partnering closely with the business to support strategic decision‑making and ensuring that accounting, control and reporting considerations are fully embedded as the business model evolves.

BAC

  • Provide senior oversight of daily P&L production and analysis for trading desks, ensuring accuracy, transparency and well‑supported explanations of financial performance.
  • Deliver clear, insightful commentary to senior management on trading results, valuation movements and balance sheet dynamics, highlighting risks, sensitivities and emerging themes.
  • Maintain senior ownership of trading‑related balance sheet integrity, ensuring timely and robust substantiation and resolution of material items.
  • Act as a senior owner for complex products, new business initiatives and non‑standard transactions, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment, valuation approach and control framework are embedded from inception.
  • Demonstrate leadership through senior presence and example, setting and role‑modelling high standards for quality, accountability and control discipline across Product Control.
  • Play a leading role in Finance Transformation initiatives, driving improvements to processes, systems and data to enhance efficiency, scalability and control effectiveness.
  • Provide senior oversight of independent price verification (IPV) and valuation adjustment frameworks, ensuring appropriate governance, challenge and documentation.
  • Support and lead month‑end close and quarter‑end Tokyo reporting for trading portfolios, ensuring completeness, accuracy and consistency across management, group and statutory reporting outputs.
  • Own and strengthen the internal control framework over trading‑related financial data, ensuring controls are robust, proportionate and audit‑ready.
  • Identify structural process weaknesses and inefficiencies, leading initiatives to improve automation, accuracy, timeliness and sustainability of Product Control processes.
  • Act as a senior point of contact and trusted adviser to Front Office, Risk, Operations and Finance on Product Control and valuation‑related matters.
  • Prepare materials for governance forums, including SMCR monthly meetings, articulating key risks, issues and developments clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate with peer Senior Financial Controllers to manage month‑end close, reconciliations and financial reporting activities.
  • Perform senior review of month‑end and quarter‑end close outputs, ensuring consistency between management, group and statutory reporting and challenging material movements and adjustments.
  • Play a key role in the annual statutory accounts process across the firm, providing accounting judgement, senior review and acting as a key Finance contact for auditors.
  • Provide senior accounting judgement and review over statutory financial statements, including disclosures relating to financial instruments and key accounting estimates.
  • Ensure a robust end‑to‑end linkage between BAC and Financial Reporting enhancing transparency.
  • Provide senior review, challenge and oversight of month‑end close activities to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Continuous improvement of processes to streamline and drive efficiencies.

Skills and Experiences

  • Exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels up to Board
  • Strong experience in product & financial control
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively. Enjoys being hands on in the detail but can also summarise
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of driving results and change
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment

  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial systems – in particular experience of GL systems
  • Proven ability to interpret complex financial data and present it to non-financial stakeholders in a simple and effective way
  • Strong Knowledge of the end‑to‑end transaction cycle with an ability to influence control, efficiency and key decisions
