Overview

Dains Scotland brings together the former William Duncan, Condies and Consilium firms into a single business comprising 200 staff and combined revenues in excess of £15 million. The business provides a range of services to the Scottish SME market including Audit, Accounts & Advisory, Tax Compliance and Advisory, Payroll, Corporate Finance and Business Recovery. We are establishing an integrated Scottish Audit team comprising over 30 partners, directors and staff. This builds on the growing audit practices in the existing businesses. As part of the expansion of the Audit business we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious semi-senior to join an existing team. As an Audit Supervisor you will be responsible for completing audit and accounting tasks as delegated by and under the general direction of the appropriate members of the wider team.

Responsibilities

  • To manage the administration of a small portfolio of clients.
  • Where and when appropriate develop and maintain positive commercial relationships with clients and in respect of the development of client work in terms of quality of work done and services provided.
  • Provide liaison between the Partner, Director or Manager and the client and maintain contact throughout the engagement including attending client meetings.
  • Demonstrate added value competencies by identifying problems or weaknesses in the client’s operations and recommend appropriate action either by utilising expertise from the assignment team or from elsewhere in the firm, including liaising with the Tax Manager.
  • Oversee the process and help prepare, review and discuss staff individual job appraisal reports.
  • Help motivate Audit staff, generate team spirit and improve communication and team relationships.
  • Deliver regular training workshops and on the job training for Audit team members in order to develop the technical capability and commercial awareness of the Audit team.
  • Constantly maintain regular dialogue with all Audit team members to update management team on progress, help prioritise team workloads and ensure deadlines are met and carried out to the satisfactory technical standard.
  • Review, improve and control all Audit assignment documentation including client correspondence, reports for clients and schedules for clients, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and accuracy are maintained by the team.
  • Review the Audit file, at manager’s request, and ensure that it is complete and in accordance with internal best Auditing practice in readiness for manager and when relevant partner review.
  • Perform such detailed tasks as may be required including work of an advance technical nature.
  • Keep management team adequately informed of progress on assignments, expected overall recovery against budget on assignments and of potential problems or critical audit areas not addressed adequately which may require resolution before manager and partner review.
  • Carry out responsibilities of an Audit Senior, when required.
  • Complete and/or oversee multiple Audit assignments at any one time and ensure the timely delivery of such assignments in line with management expectations and budgets.
  • Carry out basic Audit client and third-party correspondence at the request of the management team.
  • To be aware of the latest technical developments through reading and attendance of courses (internal and external).
  • To provide ad hoc support to other members of the Audit Department as required.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Education: You be actively progressing towards a professional qualification such as the CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent, which serves as a foundation for the technical expertise required in this role.
  • Leadership and Teamwork Skills: You possess strong teamwork qualities and can build strong relationships with your colleagues and clients. You can constructively give appropriate task feedback to those you are working with where necessary following reviews in an appropriate way whilst taking a more active leadership role with junior members of staff. You will begin supporting the management of clients and delegating to the team effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Your exceptional communication skills enable you to convey information clearly and engagingly across all levels of the organisation and to clients in a professional manner.
  • Adaptability and Innovative Thinking: You can adapt to changes and difficult situations and have a flair for thinking creatively.
  • Industry Knowledge: You have a good understanding of the accounting industry’s standards and best practices and can carry these out in your work. You have an understanding of the technical aspects concerning a set of limited company accounts and you can be conversant with all current appropriate auditing and accounting practice.
