How you’ll play your part

In this role, you will work directly with finance stakeholders to understand reporting needs, shape requirements, build robust data models and deliver Power BI dashboards that are adopted by the business. Using data from multiple sources, you will create and enhance Power BI reports, semantic models and reusable reporting structures, ensuring outputs are accurate, trusted and well documented. You will also support the migration of legacy Cognos reporting into Power BI, drive user adoption through training and support, and mentor a Data Apprentice while sharing BI development knowledge across the Finance & Management Information community. The role combines technical depth with strong stakeholder engagement, so success will be measured not only by dashboard quality, but also by business value, usability and pace of delivery.

Main Accountabilities

  • Finance dashboard development and stakeholder delivery: Partner with Finance & Controlling stakeholders to understand reporting needs and agree clear requirements, definitions and acceptance criteria. Prioritise dashboard development based on business value, user impact and delivery feasibility. Design, build, test and deploy Power BI dashboards, reports and semantic models. Create DAX measures, calculations, KPIs and common data elements that are accurate, reusable and well governed. Identify and connect to appropriate data sources, including Databricks, SQL, data lake, data warehouse and Excel. Apply data validation, reconciliation, unit testing and troubleshooting before release. Create documentation covering data sources, model logic, measures, definitions and usage guidance. Work with the wider Data & MI team to ensure reporting standards, governance and best practice are followed.
  • Head Office dashboard adoption and reporting alignment: Identify existing Head Office Power BI dashboards, data models and schemas that can support UK reporting requirements. Promote adoption of relevant Head Office solutions to avoid duplication and support consistency across reporting outputs. Adapt, deploy and explain Head Office reporting where appropriate for UK users. Provide training, guidance and support to improve dashboard adoption and user confidence.
  • Cognos migration and legacy report modernisation: Support the decommissioning of legacy Cognos Data Warehouse reports by identifying reporting needs that should migrate to Power BI. Rebuild, improve and optimise priority legacy reports using Power BI, modern data sources and improved reporting design. Work with users to test migrated reports, confirm accuracy and support transition from legacy reporting. Help reduce manual reporting effort and improve the consistency, reliability and usability of Finance MI.
  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing: Mentor and support one Data Apprentice, helping them build confidence in data, reporting and BI development. Share Power BI knowledge and good practice with analysts and business users across the Finance & MI community. Act as a trusted point of contact for Power BI dashboard questions, issue resolution and user guidance.
