How you’ll play your part

In this role, you will be responsible for setting up the Data Governance programme and managing and coordinating all data governance initiatives and processes. This includes the following Governance artifact accountabilities / responsibilities:

  • Data Governance Vision & Strategy
  • Data Governance Charter & Organisation Structure
  • Data Governance Metrics

Main Accountabilities

  • Define the objectives and scope of the Data Governance programme.
  • Establish the data governance organisation and define ad hoc working groups.
  • Lead the project to set up the Data Governance programme.
  • Accountable for the data governance related decisions and deliverables (e.g., processes, policies, roles).
  • Accountable for the Data Governance Committee Artefacts (e.g., metadata standards, technical Data Dictionary, Data Quality Standards & Rules, Data & Analytics Information Models, Reporting Standards, Analytics Standards, data Solution Requirements, Collaboration Platform Requirements, Data Ethical Guidelines, Physical & Logical Models).
  • Liaise with external parties where necessary to help ensure their data handling requirements are being met and demonstrate the effectiveness of the Data Governance programme.
  • Lead the Data Governance frameworks based on clear understanding of technical and business requirements, which includes reviewing business processes with business SMEs and implement workflows required to ensure appropriate identification of critical data, implement cleansing activities and data assurance controls/processes.
  • Using specialist knowledge, lead the documentation, implementation and compliance of specific data governance requirements and policies.
  • Engage with and build relationships with senior stakeholders to ensure commitment and support to agreed initiatives.
  • Work with all Operational Teams and Business Compliance to shape structure and deliver the agreed activity.
  • Ensure that the status of the current activity is communicated effectively at the Executive level within MBFS via multiple channels and that the risks and issues are reported and escalated accordingly.
  • Manage team delivery risks and implement mitigating actions.
  • Co-ordinate and influence outcomes based on Data strategy in Data Forums.

About you

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong understanding of the Data & Analytics discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the business strategy and the importance and impact of data on the ability of the business to realise that strategy.
  • Program management, negotiation and communication skills and experience.
  • Eager to continuously monitor the evolution in the Data Governance domain & potential external factors that would impact it (e.g., GDPR).
  • Extensive experience of working in Data Governance.
  • Demonstrable experience of Data Governance approaches and practices.
  • Solid experience working with business, data, and technical teams to clearly document Data Governance and metadata requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with both business and technical partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Data Governance tools.
  • Experience with master data management capabilities.
  • Experience in Data Loss Prevention.
  • CISM/CISSP and/or other relevant IT Security related qualification an advantage.
