The Role

Senior Data Governance Engineer is passionate about data governance, privacy, and compliance and is responsible for enabling Daily Pay’s data governance program, including improving existing processes for managing the control and protection of sensitive data and information assets.

In this role, you will focus on ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework, including data policies, standards, practices, and compliance with regulatory and contractual security and privacy requirements.

You will coordinate with data stewards to help develop new data‑centric systems and services, maximising the value of data while minimising risks.

This role will be instrumental in creating data oversight standards, PII discovery approaches, data quality frameworks, and data dictionary/lineage documentation.

The ideal candidate brings strong collaborative qualities alongside deep technical expertise in data engineering and a passion for data‑driven operational excellence.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Program

Alignment: Ensure adherence to an enterprise data governance framework, including data policies, standards, practices, and compliance with regulatory/contractual security requirements throughout the information lifecycle.

  • Capability

Building: Help establish scalable enterprise data governance capabilities across people, processes, and technologies, including building standards, creating data definitions, and training stakeholders.

  • Data

Management: Execution of business processes within the data governance program, including data profiling, enforcing specific data quality rules, and cataloging data items to ensure proper lineage is maintained.

  • Platform Administration: Oversee the implementation and management of data governance platform technologies, serving as a primary administrator and subject matter expert.
  • Architecture Collaboration: Participate in the design of functional data management systems as an integrated part of the enterprise architecture.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Design, document, and communicate data architecture and business expertise to stakeholders during system development.
  • Standards & Currency: Ensure scalable enterprise data currency, accuracy, precision, retention, and security approaches.
  • Cross‑Functional

Partnership: Collaborate with IT, engineering, legal, privacy, security, compliance, and business team members to define data governance requirements and standards.

  • Metrics & Reporting: Develop reporting methods to measure progress and metrics of data governance initiatives.
  • Documentation: Create documentation and educational materials to improve the overall knowledge of data management across the enterprise.

What You Bring to The Team

  • Data Governance Experience: 3+ years of Data Governance experience, within a regulated industry (such as fintech, payments, banking, or healthcare).
  • Regulatory

Awareness: Knowledge of data‑related regulatory requirements, including practical exposure to privacy laws such as GLBA, CCPA, or GDPR and privacy compliance implementation.

  • Technical

Literacy: A solid conceptual understanding of modern data architecture, including SQL/No SQL databases, cloud data services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and distributed systems (e. g., Spark, Kafka).

While hands‑on development isn’t the primary focus, you should be comfortable navigating these environments and running queries to extract data when needed.

  • Tooling & Observability: Broad awareness of modern data/BI tools and version control workflows.

You should be comfortable navigating observability and alerting platforms to spot inconsistencies, acting as the key point of contact to collaborate with and inform technical teams when fixes are required.

  • Strategic Influence and communication: Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions.

You possess a proven track record of collaborating with—and pushing back on—high‑level stakeholders (VP and above).

You can confidently defend technical realities and guide executive expectations when requirements conflict with best practices.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Science, Information Management, or equivalent.
