What will the role involve?

  • Work closely with editorial leads and the Chief Sub‑Editor to ensure high‑standard copy for the Mirror and, as needed, the Express.
  • Sub‑edit high‑profile Mirror page leads and shared content across both brands.
  • Edit copy for print editions, ensuring it is polished, precise, impactful, fits allocated space, and is clear and plain English.
  • Craft accurate and effective headlines that capture readers' attention.
  • Fact‑check rigorously and adapt swiftly to breaking news, updating stories accurately as events unfold.
  • Ensure every piece of copy strictly follows house style, internal guidelines, legal soundness and IPSO compliance.
  • Balance speed with meticulous detail to maintain professional, ethical, high‑quality output.
  • Work nine shifts a fortnight on a rolling rota, including regular weekend work (flexible schedule required).

  • Seasoned sub‑editor with experience in a national newsroom environment.
  • Sharp editorial judgement and creative flair – able to decide instantly whether copy may remain unchanged or requires a high‑speed overhaul.
  • Uncompromising eye for detail, strong understanding of media law.
  • Proven track record of meeting strict, demanding deadlines.
